Airbnb Turnover Cleaning Checklist for Hershey and Lancaster County Hosts

A practical, room by room turnover checklist for short term rental hosts around Hershey, Marietta, and the rest of our corner of Lancaster and Dauphin counties. Timing, linens, restocking, and the busy weekends to plan around.

A turnover is a race against the clock. One group checks out, the next one is already on the road, and the space has to look like nobody has ever stayed there. Miss one hair in the shower or one crumb on the counter, and that is what the next guest remembers.

We clean short term rentals from our base in Bainbridge, PA, and we see the same patterns in listings near Hersheypark, in the historic streets of Marietta, and along the river towns in between. This checklist is the one we would hand a new host: room by room, in the order that saves time, plus the local calendar that shapes your busiest weeks.

Use it as a starting point and adjust it to your listing. Every rental is different, and your house rules and your platform's current cleaning guidelines come first.

Airbnb Turnover Timing: Working the Gap Between Check Out and Check In

The window between your check out time and your next check in time is the whole job. A few hours sounds like plenty until the laundry is still running and the dishwasher needs emptying. The trick is to start the slow tasks first and finish with the details guests see.

A turnover order that keeps the slow jobs moving
StepWhat to doWhy this order
1Walk through, open windows or run fans, collect trashYou spot damage or lost items before you start
2Strip every bed and gather towels, start the first loadLaundry is the longest task, so it starts first
3Load and run the dishwasherIt runs while you clean other rooms
4Clean bathrooms, then the kitchenThe rooms guests inspect most closely
5Dust bedrooms and living areas, make bedsFresh linens go on after the dust settles
6Floors last, working toward the doorNothing gets tracked across a clean floor
7Restock, stage, final walk throughThe last look is the one the guest sees first

If your calendar allows it, a little buffer goes a long way. A same day turnover after a big group is a very different job from a quiet couple who stayed two nights, and a longer gap leaves room for the messy stays.

Room by Room Airbnb Turnover Cleaning Checklist

Keep the same checklist on every turnover so the result is the same for every guest. Here is the core list we start from.

Kitchen

  • Empty the dishwasher, put away clean dishes, and check that each cup and plate is actually clean
  • Wipe counters, backsplash, and the stovetop, including under the burner grates
  • Clean the microwave inside and out, since guests use it constantly
  • Clear out any food the last guests left in the fridge and wipe the shelves they touched
  • Wipe cabinet fronts, handles, and the coffee maker, and empty its grounds
  • Take out trash and recycling and put in fresh liners

Bathrooms

  • Clean the toilet inside and out, including the base and behind it
  • Scrub the tub or shower, glass, and grout, and remove every visible hair from drains and corners
  • Polish mirrors, faucets, and fixtures so there are no spots or streaks
  • Wipe counters, drawers, and the inside of the medicine cabinet
  • Replace towels and bath mat, and fold or roll them the same way every time

Bedrooms

  • Check under beds, in nightstands, and in closets for anything left behind
  • Dust headboards, nightstands, lamps, and window sills
  • Make beds with fresh linens and check pillows and mattress protectors for stains
  • Straighten hangers and check that extra blankets are clean and folded

Living areas and entry

  • Wipe remotes, light switches, door handles, and the keypad or lockbox
  • Vacuum sofa cushions and check between them
  • Dust shelves, TV stands, and decor
  • Sweep the porch or entry step and shake out the doormat

Laundry and Linens for Short Term Rentals

Linens are where turnovers most often fall behind. Washing and drying a full set of sheets and towels often takes longer than the rest of the cleaning, especially after a big group.

  • Keep at least two full sets of sheets and towels for every bed and bathroom, so one set is always clean and ready
  • Store clean sets in a locked owner's closet, bagged by room
  • Use white or light linens if you want to bleach out makeup and sunscreen
  • Check every towel and pillowcase in good light before it goes out
  • Replace anything stained, thin, or frayed between seasons instead of mid turnover

Laundry is one of our add-ons, so it can be part of a turnover. If you keep spare sets on site, tell us where they live and we will swap them in while the used ones wash.

Restocking Checklist for Every Guest

Running out of toilet paper is a small thing that feels like a big thing to a guest. A quick restock list, taped inside the supply closet, keeps it from happening.

  • Toilet paper, tissues, and paper towels
  • Hand soap, dish soap, and dishwasher detergent
  • Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash if your listing offers them
  • Trash bags in every can, plus a spare roll
  • Coffee, tea, sugar, and filters if you provide them
  • A few basic spices, salt and pepper, and cooking oil
  • Light bulbs and batteries for remotes and smoke detectors

Count what is left at every turnover and note when a supply drops low. We bring our own cleaning supplies and equipment, so you only need to keep the guest supplies stocked. If you want us to flag anything that is running out, add that to your checklist.

What Guests Notice First When They Walk In

Guests form an opinion in the first few minutes, often before they set their bags down. These are the spots that shape that first impression:

  1. The smell. Fresh air matters more than a strong scent, so open windows during the clean and empty every trash can.
  2. The bathroom. Hair, soap scum, or a water spot on the mirror undoes an otherwise great clean.
  3. The beds. Smooth, tucked linens and plumped pillows signal that everything is fresh.
  4. The floors. Crumbs underfoot and pet hair in corners show up right away, especially on dark wood.
  5. The kitchen counters and sink. Guests set groceries down here within minutes of arriving.
  6. Small leftovers from the last guest. A sock under the bed or a hair tie in a drawer tells them nobody checked.

A final walk through with fresh eyes catches most of these. Stand in the doorway of each room and look at it the way a stranger would.

Seasonal Notes for Hershey, Marietta, and Lancaster County Hosts

Local calendars drive bookings around here, and busy weekends mean tighter turnovers. Plan your supplies, linens, and cleaning help before these stretches, not during them.

Hershey

Hersheypark runs in seasons: spring weekends, summer, Halloween events in the fall, and Christmas Candylane. Summer runs daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, and Chocolate Avenue gets congested with visitors in those months, so leave extra travel time between stays. Candylane brings holiday visitors from November on.

Fall has its own rush. In early October the Hershey Bears open their home season at the Giant Center, and the AACA Eastern Fall Meet, a huge antique auto show and swap meet, fills the grounds around Hersheypark and the Giant Center. Event weekends like these can mean fuller houses, more linens, more trash, and more mud on the floors. If you host near the park, our page on cleaning help near Hershey covers the town in more detail.

Marietta and the river towns

Marietta's fall calendar brings events like Blues, Brews and Boos and Haunted Marietta in October, and the Candlelight Tour of Homes is held on the first Sunday in December. Older homes in Marietta's historic district reward a careful hand, and hosts can find more about short term rental cleaning in Marietta on its own page.

Guests who spend the day on the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail, which runs from Columbia through Marietta, may bring a little of the trail back inside. A washable mat at the door and a quick sweep of the entry at every turnover help.

Deep Resets Between Busy Seasons

Turnovers keep a rental guest ready. They are not built to catch everything. After a full summer near Hersheypark or a run of fall weekends, grease builds up in the oven, baseboards collect dust, and cabinets get sticky from guests who cook.

  • Inside the oven and fridge, including the drawers
  • Inside cabinets and drawers
  • Baseboards, door frames, and vents
  • Interior windows and sills
  • Mattress protectors, duvet inserts, and shower curtains washed or replaced

Many hosts block off a day or two when bookings slow down and schedule a top to bottom deep clean of the rental. Quieter weeks between your busy seasons are a good time for it.

When to Hire Help With Airbnb Turnovers

Plenty of hosts do their own turnovers, especially at first. It usually makes sense to bring in help when:

  • Your bookings stack up with same day turnovers on busy weekends
  • You live far enough away that every turnover means a long drive
  • Your reviews start mentioning small cleaning misses
  • You manage more than one listing, or you have a full time job on top of hosting
  • You would rather spend your time on guest messages, pricing, and upkeep

Our Airbnb turnover cleaning service is planned around your check out and check in times. Emilia works from your checklist, we bring the supplies and equipment, and we are open 7 days a week from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, which covers the weekends when most guests come and go. Emilia speaks English and Portuguese.

Price depends on the size of the rental, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, how often you need us, and add-ons like laundry, so every quote is personalized. Send us your listing details and Emilia will email your quote within 1 business day. You can also call or text (215) 989-1170.
